In 2023, Denmark has moved up one place to No. 9 in the ranking of the world's most innovative countries. Switzerland, Sweden, the United States, the United Kingdom and Singapore are the world's most innovative economies in 2023.
Denmark continues to stand strong when the world's most innovative countries are ranked in the flagship of innovation reports, the Global Innovation Index 2023.
The report shows that Denmark is still in the top 10 among the absolute elite of the world's most innovative economies. In 2023, Denmark has moved up one place to No. 9 in 2023 from a place of No. 10 in 2022. Switzerland, Sweden, the USA, United Kingdom and Singapore are the world's most innovative economies in 2023.
"It is gratifying that, year after year, Denmark ranks at the top among the world's most innovative economies. This underlines the good conditions for innovation in Denmark", says Sune Stampe Sørensen, CEO of the Patent and Trademark Office. He adds:
"It is also important that Denmark does not fall behind in the global innovation race. Innovation drives growth and creates new jobs. Companies that protect their inventions with patent, trademark or design protection have significantly better conditions for growth, exports and a good business. The Patent and Trademark Office is therefore working to strengthen the growth layer in Danish business with knowledge of how they protect their inventions and ideas", says Sune Stampe Sørensen, CEO of the Patent and Trademark Office.
DK leads in innovation per capita
Denmark is a leader in innovation measured per per capita, but continues to lag behind in getting enough out of the investments in innovation. On this parameter, Denmark takes the 10th place in 2023, which is the same position as in 2022.
Overall, the report points to many geopolitical challenges, continued uncertainty and a decline in investment in innovation after a boom in 2021. Scientific
publications, research and development, venture capital deals (but not the value) and patents continued to increase in 2023. However, the growth rates were lower than the extraordinary increases in 2021.

In addition to criteria such as patents and trademark applications, the index measures, among other things, indicators for high-tech exports, political climate, education, scientific publications, infrastructure and idea generation.
