The Danish Patent and Trademark Office implements new case handling system

Published 28-01-2025

The case handling system for trademarks and designs at the Danish Patent and Trademark Office has been in use for many years. As part of an ongoing modernisation of our IT systems, we have developed a new case handling system in collaboration with the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO).

Initially, the system will be implemented for designs and subsequently for trademarks. We will start using the system for design cases on 6 February 2025.

The implementation of the new system may affect you.

Examination of design cases during transition from the old to the new system
There will be a transition period from 29 January 2025 to 6 February 2025 during which we will migrate data from the old system to the new. During this period, we will not process design cases. This means that the Danish Patent and Trademark Office will not send letters, invoices, or other communications during this time.

You can submit design applications as usual, and your application will get a date of receipt, the day we receive it.

Design applications submitted during the transition period will be processed as quickly as possible from 6 February 2025.

Design cases will be unavailable in our online registry, PVSonline, for a period of time
From 6 February 2025, you will not be able to view design cases in PVSonline. Instead, you can search for Danish design cases in the European database DesignView.

We expect that you will be able to see design cases in PVSonline again when we implement the new case management system for trademarks.

Correspondence in design cases via Digital Post
When we start using the new system, we will send correspondence in design cases via Digital Post if we have the necessary information about you. For businesses, this is the CVR number (the company registration number), and for private individuals, it is the CPR number. Read more about Digital Post.

Alternatively, we will send correspondence via ordinary post.
